Camera movements and angles and how they apply to horror

Image
High angle This angle is used to make something or someone look vulnerable and this used commonly in horror as the people who are afraid are stereotypically filmed in this way when they fall to the floor. This angle will be used frequently in our trailer as it relates to Hitchcock's theory as this is a way to create fear. Low angle This angle is commonly used to make the antagonist look intimidating , scary and much bigger than the antagonist. This and the high angle are binary opposites which fits into Strauss' theory as this opposite angles have completely opposite meanings. This is usually a point of view shot from the person on the floor. Close up This is used to highlight emotion or highlight the importance of an object, which is very useful in horror as emotions are always running very high. Highlighting emotion in horror is essential as it clearly shows the mood of the scene and can show how characters react to a certain situation. CCTV CCTV are heavily ...

Deconstructions of horror film posters 1

Image
Saw 2 Poster The main thing that stands out to me is the rough almost 'cut up' look to the masthead mainly and other parts of the poster hugely corresponds to the message of blood and gore in the film, and this links to the two fingers as part of the masthead which also signifies the gore, the genre of the film and could even be a sneak preview into what is to come in the film. It is located just below the centre of the poster and this is so it stands out clearly to the audience and the audience can clearly recognise the title of the film as it is the most important thing in making a clear brand image. The title is also in a silvery colour which could possibly relate to an actual saw, this could also be related to the two fingers and be included in the film so I think this is very clever if this is what they were trying to portray within this, this links to Barthes' symbolic code in which they showed a deeper meaning. All the colours used in this poster are very ...

Our target audience

Image
Their age The main age group that we are targeting is from 15-20, this is as we feel that this is mainly the age group that enjoy horror films the most and will be excited by it. I am apart of this age group myself so will be easier for me to interact with others also in the age group and discuss whether they like my idea and would want to see the trailer. Their gender We are generally aiming ours at both genders as they both can enjoy horror films but males stereotypically like them more as they enjoy the gore and are almost excited by being scared whereas women do not stereotypically. Their class The class of our target audience will be at lower class, this is because they enjoy horror films and it almost makes their life feel better and is a good way to escape their normal lives. They will be in the C2, D and E part of the British Social Grading Scale, this is good because it covers roughly 45% of the UK population. Their interests Although it will be ...

Deciding the type of horror

Image
We have narrowed the options down to a few and now I will discuss the strengths and weaknesses so that I can analyse the best option and which weaknesses are easiest to overcome. We have picked these three as they are the best options for us and are all very popular at the moment. Paranormal The strengths of this option is that it is a very popular type of horror film following the Paranormal Activity films which were all very highly anticipated. It also wouldn't take many actors as they usually include a family at the most and we wouldn't have to dress anyone up as the antagonist. The weaknesses of this is that it would be hard to do the editing as it would be difficult to make things move around and stuff like that without the person doing it being seen. It would also be quite hard to make ours unique as there are many different paranormal stories that all base around the same kind of story. Clown horror  The strengths of this are that it wouldn't be that hard ...
