Research and planning - Audience research
Now that we have got a basic idea of what the story line will be, I now need to establish a clear target audience that our teen drama will be aimed at, as this is very important when designing anything in media.
Age range; 14-25
We have decided to choose this age range as we feel it best fits our type of story, because it is quite violent then it won't be targeted at the younger audience and we felt that 14 was the mature age as our drama has deep humour and elements of violence that will not be best suited to the younger audience. We capped it at 25 as we feel that these aged adults will still be connected to their school life as some will still be in education and their memories from school will still be fresh in their heads, the reason we haven't targeted this at the older audience as their school experience would have been very different to school nowadays.
Social groups; most if not all
We have targeted this at most social groups as it shows the contrast in lifestyles between middle and lower class pupils, so it will be enjoyable to people of all social groups to see how we have portrayed these classes in our production. When researching the forms and conventions of teen dramas it is common that the working class is represented the most, although we felt that this difference would make ours unique to most school teen dramas.
Gender; males and females
Most teen dramas are aimed at females, an example of this being Gossip Girls, we felt that we would subvert this stereotyped forms and conventions as this would also make ours unique and also with the majority of social groups being targeted then this gives us a wide target audience to aim our drama at.
