Research and planning - Examples of teen dramas

Example of  teen drama Freak.

This example of an online teen drama is called Freak, there are currently 16 episodes and its produced by FremantleMedia and it is about a girl being accused as a boy This is good as I can see what makes a good teen drama and what kind of things I need to include in mine to make mine good.

This drama uses a wide range of camera angles, some examples of these are; close up, two shot, shot reverse shot and many more, this has made me think about the types of camera angles and movements needed to make a successful, professional teen drama and the message that these angles possess.

It has also made me think about the type of story to include as this one is about bullying, a very common thing used in teen dramas.

Another example, Waterloo Road.

This teen drama is called Waterloo Road, this is a more established teen drama, with 10 series and it is on BBC One, this is good as I have analysed the things necessary in making a professional looking teen drama and the things like camera angles and movements, and the type of stories that are included, as in this many common stories are used like depression, cheating and bullying.

This is also a good example because it is a school teen drama, which mine will also be, so I have looked at the techniques they use in making a successful school teen drama.

I researched the stereotypes of teens to understand the different groups of teens.
Stereotypes of teens;

  • Juvenile delinquent
  • Dumb teen
  • Posh/nerd
  • Jock/popular people
  • Rich
  • Poor

  1. A good start, try giving more detail about the codes and conventions used in the mise-en-scene, camera, editing, sound, etc.
